What's New in March

Sippers!

Even with an extra day, February flew right by us. The past month was an eventful time for me, full of travel, education, and even more certifications, but March will be just as exciting while I stay at home for a bit.

I have to jump to the beginning of next month and wish the founders and specifically Mike Gonze a happy anniversary. April 1st Dreadnought Wines is having a birthday! In true Dreadnought style we will be celebrating but the controversy is about age. Mike says Dreadnought Wines will turn 40 this year. A printed coaster tells us that Dreadnought Wines will turn 40 next year…..what to do???? This April 1st we are having a Wine & Cheese class featuring French Cheese because when Mike has a birthday of his own we always put a candle in cheese (not cake) because he likes cheese more than cake. THEN next year (apparently the printed word on coasters carries weight in our decision making), we will celebrate 40 years and we will celebrate the entire year with lots of fun things. ** if you have any old Dreadnought Wines mementos that you would like to share please let us know. We have some price sheets and invoices from a customer who did some cleaning out. We won’t mention who because apparently they don’t deep clean too often. :)

So, if you need motivation to deep clean here it is.

Now back to March….

I’ve taken on Sake with a passion and will share all kinds of good things with that category of sipping! Watch for it to show up in places you never expected and some that are obvious like our Sake 101: Intro to Sake class and WSET Sake level 1 (in May).

The Grape Race is another gem in our schedule that we have found a secret weapon for. Yes everyone can hit 100 grape varieties in an instant. Sign up for the class and watch the newsletter for this secret. If you are over 200 varieties and are struggling, save the date March 18th to join us!

My personal favorite fun eating event is coming up this month. I can’t believe that we are so fortunate to be partnering with what is clearly one of Pittsburgh’s iconic companies. Wine, Pizza & More with Mineo’s Pizza. I moved here in 1981 and the pizza battle was one of the first things I heard about. This series will bring the great food (not just pizza) of Mineo’s and some interesting wine pairings each second Tuesday of the month. Join us this month for Pizza & Bubbles!

Now back to Dreadnought Wines. Take a peek below at what Dreadnought Wines is up to. We have lots of new additions and the Casual Friday event coming up on the 6th will feature a display of some last of stock items that I found in the warehouse.

So many fun things we are working on here there are too many to mention. Keep your eyes looking at your inbox for lots of new things.

NEW AT DREADNOUGHT

I can’t let you sippers go without listing some new gems that have come in to the Dreadnought Portfolio:

Vadio Vinho Tinto "Grande Vadio" Bairrada DOC $49.64 not the soft entry level Baga that we have been showcasing but the next step up which really shows the depth and potential of the great grape.

Vadio Rexarte Red, Bairrada $115.23 and the real deal big boy that you can open today and sip tomorrow. People always ask when should they open a wine before drinking and I always want an option where I can say today for tomorrow and here it is!! Along with big Barolo this Baga will hang all night long. The question is???? Can you wait that long. (I’d take a sip today and then compare tomorrow)

Vadio Espumante Brut $20.02 A beautiful aroma rises out of the glass to meet your palate with a dance. Yes I just did some wine waxing on here. This bottle of bubble is just a delight. AND there is a rose version made from….you guessed it Baga.

Quinta de Santiago Alvarinho Vinho Verde Blend (Alvarinho / Loureiro) $16.79 A customer favorite is back a new fresh vintage. We are thrilled to have Joana Santiago’s wines back in the US. We have additional wines of hers that we have never had before. Including a bottle of bubbles $27.17.

We have other new goodies that I could wax on about. I will only mention one here because it is of great value and quality.

Fontval Cotes du Rhone $14.97 this wine should be your benchmark for Cote du Rhone. End of statement. This is just a great great example of what a Cote du Rhone should be. We put it in the Wine of the Every other Month Club and ran it on a Friday Casual and people reordered so much if you want some you will have to wait for the next shipment in a couple of weeks. But preorder if you want to sip on this beauty.
