Itinerary

Saturday, October 12

Arrive at Malpensa airport and transfer to our hotel in a beautiful resort on Lake Maggiore having a stop for lunch in a typical countryside restaurant. In the afternoon we arrive in Stresa, once a small town of fisherman, it is now a town of 5,000 with Art Nouveau hotels. We walk through this beautiful lake village and have dinner in one of the authentic Osterias, drinking local wines with cheese and cured meats.


 

Sunday, October 13

Today we explore Lago di Maggiore. After breakfast, a private boat takes us around the Lake, visiting the enchanted gardens of Villa Taranto before lunch at the fisherman trattoria on the Isola dei Pescatori (Island of the Fishermen). It is the smallest of the Borromean Islands, of only 50 inhabitants. Early in the afternoon we return to Stresa and take a bus ride to Lake Orta, visiting the cozy little village and the Island of San Giulio and its Monastery. Dinner is in one of the nice hidden restaurants located in the narrow streets of the village.


 

Monday, October 14

After breakfast we will move to the wine country of Piedmont. We make our stop in Monferrato and visit the gorgeous little medieval town of San Giorgio. After a nice lunch based on local tomini (soft cheese) and mushrooms, we will visit Contratto, the most important producer of Spumante in the Asti Provence. His cellar is inside a Castle and the barrel are stored underground in a natural cave . We can then proceed to Dogliani, famous for the Dolcetto wine, where we will check-in in a wine resort and have our dinner.

Tuesday, October 15

In the Morning we will have an incredible farmhouse experience by casa Matilda, a slow food presidium farm, with a homemade pasta cooking class and lunch with the owners. The afternoon is dedicated to visit and experience the Cantina Poderi Eunaudi, the best producer of the Dogliani DOCG, visiting the vines, the wine production, having snack and wine tasting. In the afternoon there will be the possibility of free walking tour of the village of Dogliani before going for dinner at Fiorella’s house (Marco’s mom).

Wednesday, October 16

Le Langhe Basse visit

After breakfast, bus ride to Vicoforte to visit one of the best monument in all the Piedmont, the largest round shaped chapel in the world, reopened last year during the Expo period. The frescos are part of the UNESCO Heritage sites. For lunch we will go in Valcasotto, an original ancient mountain village famous for the cheese production. We will visit the old aging caves. After the visit we will have the lunch in a local osteria with a great selection of excellent dairy products. In the afternoon, we will move few miles south and discover the beautiful medieval town of Mondovi and it's bell tower. The dinner will be in Dogliani at the fantastic restaurant il verso del Ghiottone where to taste the world famous Fritto Misto Piemontese.

 

Thursday, October 17

Le Langhe Alte Visit

Breakfast and bus journey to le Langhe Alte. The first stop is in Bra, one of the cutest town of le Langhe Alte. Today we will experience their cheese fair, all the best cheese producers exposing and let you taste the best of the best. After this delicious appetizer, the lunch is in Bra at the Slowfood restaurant La Bocca Buona, famous for the Bra sausage. In the afternoon we will visit a Barolo producer, Marchesi di Barolo, for a great wine tasting. Later in the afternoon we will travel to Alba, the capital of the Truffle, where we will walk in the narrow streets of the old town and then go to the famous restaurant Osteria dell’Arco for the best tasting of Agnolotti del Plin and truffles.

Friday, October 18

After Hotel Check-out we will go and visit the University of Food and Wine, founded by the Slow Food Movement President Carlo Petrini. We will have a great wine tasting at La Banca del vino before going for lunch at their beautiful restaurant and try their Vitello Tonnato, the Veal carpaccio in Tuna Sauce. Later in the afternoon we will travel to Turin, the Capital of Piedmont, check in at the hotel, relax and then experience the famous restaurant Il Consorzio for dinner. The specialty of this place is the veal cheek braised in Barolo sauce.

 

Friday, October 19

Morning breakfast and we will enjoy a great chocolate tasting in one of the most famous and old producer and shop in town. After this incredible experience we will be guided by Carol, our top notch guide, and discover the old Savoy Capital, which was also the first Capital of Italy. Is worth to visit the Royal Palace and the Egyptian Museum, the second most beautiful in the word after the British Museum. Lunch today will be on your own. After lunch you will have some good free time for shopping in the very fancy and selected pedestrian area of the city center along Corso Cavour. We will meet later in the day and go the “bicerin”, which is the oldest cafe in town where Cavour (a famous 19th century Savoy general) used to go, before going to our farewell dinner at the traditional restaurant Le Tre Galline, famous for the preparation of the Gran Bollito Misto. Return to the hotel after dinner.

Sunday, October 20

At 8.30 AM leave for Milan MXP airport ad departing to Boston.
